New Mr. Scared Sound!

After a few months of relative silence, our good comrade Mr. Scared has posted a pair of new works; one phasey new single called ‘Paraog (comina)’ and one minimalistic demo titled ‘Reverb and Delay.’

Malheureusement, il n’a pas publié pas d’information plus concernant les chansons. Donc, nous nous retrouvons avec le bruit seulement!

Check both tracks below/écoutez ci-dessous.

Mr. Scared - Paraog (Comina)

Mr. Scared  - Reverb and Delay (use headphones to hear the subtleties!)

Love,

R.

"I Hate You preview" by Saltillo.

It has been nearly 6 year since Chicago based artist Menton J. Matthews III put out his well rounded record Ganglion under hia Saltillo moniker. Since that release, Saltillo seemed to have stepped into the haze of ‘one-off album’ finitude. In early 2011, however, Matthews began posting occasional video blogs pertaining to the development of his newest project MONOCYTE.

Monocyte turned out to be a two-fold attempt at bringing together Matthews’ highly developed artistic ability and honed aesthetic motivations with the sonic compositional skills that he showcased on Ganglion. Put simply, Monocyte a comic series and an accompanying album.

While the world of reading graphic series isn’t exactly my stomping grounds, I did have a look over Issue #1 back when it came out in October of last year. Here is a scan from that issue:

While the dark, verbose, intellectualist surrealism of the series seems like it would be right in my wheelhouse, I definitely found myself a little at odds with it. However, I am still optimistic about the forthcoming LP meant to accompany  the series due out on Artoffact Records February 7th. There are several clips from the album posted on youtube and on Artoffact’s soundcloud if you want to seek ‘em out. The clip of ‘I Hate You’ is avaiable for your streaming pleasure above.

Look for Saltillo’s Monocyte via Artoffact 02/07 as well as MONOCYTE #3, out soon through IDW Publishing.

Avant-garde jazz duo Chicago Underground Duo (who, rather predictably, hail from Chicago) are now preparing to release their 12th overall record Age of Energy. Although the group has been releasing the majority of their records through Thrill Jockey since 1998, Age of Energy will be dropping via NYC label Northern Spy March 13.
As for the ear-unheard sound of the Duo, the band itself has stated:
“[The Duo is] an organic mixture of African, Electronic, Coloristic, Jazz influenced life supporting systematic, non-systematic feeling from two humans trying ever to expand outward and inward for the people and ourselves.”
And what should be expected on their upcoming LP? Northern Spy’s website has this to say:
“…Most of the material on the record was recorded live with very few overdubs.   Thematically, Age of Energy is concerned with the balance between controlled and uncontrolled experiences. Computers, keyboards and drum machines pulse alongside ancient instruments like the African Mbira.”
